Throughout The Sims series, clocks were featured as objects. With the exception of alarm clocks, clocks usually served no real function. Some clocks in The Sims expansions and all clocks in The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 are animated to be in sync with the real in-game time.

Alarm clocks were first introduced in The Sims, and would automatically wake Sims up two hours before their carpool arrived so that they would have time to get ready for work or school. Alarm clocks were reintroduced in The Sims 2 and The Sims 3, and function similarly to those in the first game. These can only be placed on end tables.^{[confirmation needed]}

While clocks in The Sims 2 indicated the correct time, the hour hand's animation wasn't realistic, and would remain in the o'clock position all through the hour.
