The Sims 2 The Sims 3 The Sims 4

In The Sims 2, The Sims 3 and The Sims 4, Sims who retire from a career will receive a pension.

The Sims 2

In The Sims 2, elder Sims can retire from their careers at any time by using a telephone.

Retired Sims will receive a weekly pension equal to half of their former weekly salary. One-seventh of this amount is paid each day. Pensions amounts are not affected by the Skilled Negotiator aspiration benefit.

Retired Sims who take a part-time job keep their pension. The part-time job appears in a second tab on the job panel.

Pension payments stop when a Sim dies, but resume if the Sim is resurrected.

In The Sims 3, Sims can retire in the same way as in The Sims 2. After retiring, nearby Sims will cheer for the newly retired Sim.

Pension payment schedules depend on the Sim's career payment schedule. Sims retired from careers with weekly stipends receive pensions weekly, while Sims retired from careers that pay every workday will receive a daily payment.[confirmation needed]

For most careers, pension amounts are determined by the Sim's career level at retirement. Base pension amount vary between careers and career branches. For example, a retired master thief receives a base pension of §400 while a retired emperor of evil receives a base pension of §300.

For stipend-based careers from Ambitions, pension amounts depend on the Sim's average income from that career.[1]

It has been reported[2] that retired Sims continue receiving their pensions while on vacation.

A Sim's pension stops when they die or takes another job.

Retired Sims may still appear as bosses or coworkers for other Sims, due to the way that the game treats retirement. The NRaas Story Progression mod treats retirement as a full-time career, preventing retired Sims from being automatically assigned new jobs.

The Sims 4

Similarly to previous games, elder Sims can retire from their careers by using a cellphone. Once retired, they will receive a pension daily at the time they would have come home from work.[3]

After retiring, Sims may return to work, although doing so will cause them to lose their retirement benefits. Sims are able to retire again, however.
