Garlic

Garlic is a rare vine plant that can be harvested from plants and bought from the grocery store.

Sims can eat them whole and raw from their inventories, though this will give the Moodlet garlicBreath "Garlic Breath" moodlet, which is known to give other Sims who get near the Sim the "Disgusted" moodlet and is believed to slightly decrease the success of social interactions while it lasts. The moodlet can be fixed early by brushing their teeth at a sink, using the Mint option at a bubble bar[TS3:LN], or with 3.5% chance when eating a jelly bean[TS3:SN], any of which gives the Moodlet mintyBreath "Minty Breath".

Garlic is also a core ingredient of the meals Grilled Salmon, Lobster Thermidor, Stir Fry,[TS3:WA] and Frogs Legs.[TS3:WA] While it is also implied to be an ingredient in Garlic Fries[TS3:S] and Garlic Bread,[Store] whose meals would thus have negative effects on vampires, garlics in inventories or refrigerators are not used to make them.

Garlic is the preferred bait for fishing Vampire Fish.

In The Sims 3: Pets, a Sim can feed horses garlic. The horse will eat it, and will not get the "Garlic Breath" moodlet from it.

Sims with the Supernatural skeptic[TS3:SN] trait can choose the "Enthuse About Garlic" interaction on another Sim. Despite being listed as a "Friendly..." interaction, it is intended to be Supernatural's primary insult against vampires, while almost all other Sims will wave it away and indicate that the remark doesn't apply to them. Even Sims who have traits that would on paper have made them like garlic (e.g. Natural cook or Vegetarian) think the remark doesn't apply to them.

Since eating a jelly bean[TS3:SN] has an approximately 2.08% chance of giving the Garlic Breath moodlet, it can be assumed that garlic is one of the possible jelly bean flavors.

Drinking the "Garlicious" energy drink from an espresso bar[TS3:UL] will not give the Garlic Breath moodlet.

Effects on vampires

With The Sims 3: Late Night and/or The Sims 3: Supernatural installed, if a vampire eats garlic, they will become nauseous. If the vampire eats a second garlic while still nauseous, they will faint for 30 minutes, still have the "Nauseous" moodlet, and can temporarily also get the "Too Much Sun" moodlet until they wake up again.

Garlic is an uncommon plant that can be harvested to serve as cooking ingredients or made as decorations. Sims can get garlic seeds by ordering them from planters or on the computer.

Effect on vampires

Garlic is extremely repulsive to vampires who do not have the "Garlic Immunity" power, giving them the Garlic Weakness Garlic Induced Irritation +1 uncomfortable moodlet. In its presence vampires cannot feed on Sims or drink plasma at all. Vampires also see green pungent smells coming off of garlic whereas human Sims see none; vampires still see it even after acquiring immunity.

Vampires will get a Buffs eatfood neg Grossed out by Garlic +1 uncomfortable moodlet if they eat raw garlic or food that can potentially include garlic as an ingredient. Known recipes include Angry Flaming Spaghetti, Cioppino, Garlic Noodles, Pizza Marinara[TS4:HCH], and Spaghetti. They will make vampires uncomfortable even if no extra garlic was added.

Uses against vampires

Garlic is very helpful when Sims suffer from vampire invasions, as it will stop incoming vampires from drinking your Sims' plasma.

A Sim with garlic in their inventory will use it when fighting with a vampire and be more likely to win.

Garlic decorations

With Level 5 in the vampire lore skill, Sims can craft garlic decorations that they can place within their homes to ward off vampires. Sims can make Garlic Braids, Garlic Wreaths, and Garlic Garlands, all of which give the "Garlic Induced Irritation" moodlet to all vampires within the same room.

There is a lot in Forgotten Hollow called "Garliclauter Place", where one or more garlic decorations hang in each room.
