A stadium is a rabbit hole building in The Sims 3.
Details
Stadiums are usually the town's focus place for most organized sports, and secondarily (next to theaters) music events. Sims with high athletic skill or who have the virtuoso trait are attracted to stadiums.
As such, they host a number of events and functions:
- Get a job in the Professional Sports career.[note 1]
- Get a job in the Sports agent career.[note 2]
- Attend an Athletic skill class.
- Watch a sports game (Wednesday and Sunday afternoons). Improves fun. Being a rabbit hole, the player will not see the ongoing game.
- Attend a concert (Primarily Saturday evenings).
- Partner with and own as an investment property.
- Amateur Olympics (Certain Saturdays).
- Invention conventions ("The Great Invention Convention" Inventing skill opportunity).[TS3:A]
- Dog and cat competitions ("Best in the Show Competition"; certain Fridays).[TS3:P]
- "Play Collegiate Sport…", which will increase Jock influence while sharply reducing the Energy motive.[TS3:UL][note 3]
Most stadiums are standalone rabbit holes, but are combined with schools, big show venues, or a university graduation annex.
Various opportunities describe the stadium as also hosting events that the Sim cannot participate in themselves:
- Racewalking ("Walking Bass Line" bass skill opportunity).
Varieties
Self-built stadiums
It is perfectly possible to build a stadium as a standard public lot, with a small playing field, seating terraces, and food and bathroom facilities. However, the sports would be amateur only (i.e. no payments), goal-based sports (e.g. basketball, soccer goal) would not feature playing from one goal to another, and the building should keep in mind that Sims get very easily bored when sitting in couches or seats and that fewer than 15 spectators would be on a lot at a time.
Sports activities necessary to build a functional stadium are included in The Sims 1 (Basketball) and The Sims 3 (American football, baseball), whereas The Sims 2 players need either The Sims 2: Bon Voyage (Log rolling) or The Sims 2: Freetime (Soccer, basketball).
