Cornelia Goth (née Crumplebottom) is a pre-made playable Sim in The Sims: Unleashed and The Sims 3. She first appeared in Unleashed along with her husband, Gunther, and their two cats, Hecuba and Menelaus. She is the matriarch of the Goth family and Pleasantview.

Cornelia was born in the Old Country, then moved to Sunset Valley in The Sims 3, and eventually to Pleasantview in The Sims 2. She is the mother of Mortimer Goth. She is also the daughter of Simon and Prudence Crumplebottom, both of Pleasantview. She has a sister, Agnes Crumplebottom.

Biography

Life leading up to The Sims 3

Since The Sims 3 is a prequel to The Sims, Cornelia and Gunther are adults. Her appearance is somewhat gothic, with short purple hair, although her natural hair color in The Sims 2 is black. She wears dark colors and long skirts, reminiscent of 1990s gothic fashion.

She doesn't have a very good relationship with her husband, Gunther, possibly because he is a workaholic. This, however, contradicts Mortimer's bio, which claims that their marriage was strong and healthy. Although friends, they do not even have a high enough relationship to WooHoo.

Her parents, Prudence and Simon Crumplebottom, are both deceased and buried in the Goth graveyard. Cornelia is a friend of Vita Alto and an acquaintance of Vita's husband Nick, as well as Geoffrey and Nancy Landgraab. Her closest relationship is to her sister, Agnes Crumplebottom, with whom she is good friends. Both sisters will often become best friends shortly after the game begins.

Her lifetime wish to have a perfect garden is hard to fulfill, as she has not yet learned the gardening skill, has no seeds in her inventory or plants in her yard, and lacks the green thumb or loves the outdoors traits. In addition, she is only seven days away from becoming an elder.

If Seasons is installed, she often works at the food booths at the Sunset Valley Summer Festival, along with Madison VanWatson.

Life leading up to The Sims

Cornelia and her husband Gunther are introduced in The Sims: Unleashed, along with their twin Siamese cats Hecuba and Menelaus. Her bio states that she is glad that her granddaughter, Cassandra, is so nearby. She is the founder of the Sim City Bridge Society and enjoys high tea and phrenology. She might have been intended to be a friend of Buffy Snooty Patooty, whose bio also mentions Bridge and high tea. Judging from her clothing and the fact that Gunther has a job, she is likely to be a housewife.

Her relationship with her husband seems to have recovered, as she is fully in love with him by the time of The Sims. She wears a long, elegant black and silver dress. Unlike in The Sims 2, her last name in The Sims is Goth Sr, but this is only so that the player can easily distinguish between the two Goth families.

When first played in Neighborhood 1, she will have no relationships with Mortimer, Bella, or Cassandra.

Life leading up to The Sims 2

By the time of The Sims 2, both Cornelia and her husband are now deceased. She died in a fire shortly after her son Mortimer retired. Her husband predeceased her in a separate fire. She is buried in the new Goth home with Gunther, her father, sister, and in-laws.

She wears a long black dress (although it is simpler than the one she wore in The Sims) and round glasses, the only time in the series where she wears them. Like Mama Lothario, she has an unused French braid hairstyle. It is very similar to a hairstyle that is available in Create-A-Sim, but the texture is slightly different. If she is resurrected or appears as a haunting ghost, her hairstyle will change into the French braid hairstyle present in the game.

According to Cornelia's SimDNA in SimPE, her hair was black before it turned gray. According to her age data, she had 27 days left in the elder life stage when she died.

This Sim can be resurrected with the Tombstone of Life and Death.

Life leading up to The Sims 4

As of patch 193 of The Sims 4, Cornelia now appears in the Goth family tree as Mortimer's deceased mother. However, she is unresurrectable and will not appear as a ghost. Like in The Sims 2, her cause of death is given as Death by Fire. Her husband does not appear in the family tree, but her parents, Simon and Prudence Crumplebottom, do. If The Sims 4: Cottage Living is installed, Agnes Crumplebottom will be set as her sister.

In The Sims: Unleashed, Cornelia lives with Gunther and their cats Hecuba and Menelaus in a large mansion at 77 Maple Street in Old Town, a little further from Sim Lane. The home has a small graveyard, like all Goth homes, but there are no ghosts, so it is not known who is buried there. Perhaps Gunther died in a fire in the mansion, then Cornelia died in the Goth home, which was then re-constructed into a new and improved house for Mortimer, Cassandra, and Alexander Goth in The Sims 2. In The Sims 3, Cornelia, Gunther, and Mortimer live in a big house with its own cemetery.

Trivia

• Cornelia has blue eyes in The Sims 3, but brown eyes in The Sims 2.
• In The Sims 3, Cornelia has the same favorites as Victor Goth, her father-in-law.
• Since Cornelia and Gunther died in two separate fires, it could be assumed that one of them died in the fire that burnt down 5 Sim Lane.
• She made a cameo in the intro movie in The Sims 3. She could be seen asking for an autograph from a guitarist at the theater.
• With default aging in The Sims 3, she will become an elder while Mortimer is still a child. This completely contradicts the fact that Mortimer and Cornelia were both elders before the start of The Sims 2, as made evident by Mortimer's memories.
  • On a similar note, Cornelia is close to becoming an elder in The Sims 3, but died around the time of her son's retirement, which was a fairly recent event.
• Despite not being a witch, she is often seen in promotional pictures from The Sims 3 store using magical objects.
• Her thumbnail in Unleashed is sometimes mistaken by players for Ginia Kat due to their similar appearances.
• In the same way Mortimer, Bella, Cassandra and Alexander Goth are very likely parodies of Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday and Pugsley Addams from The Addams Family, Cornelia may be a parody of Grandmama Addams. Both are the matriarchs of their families, and they are often portrayed as being involved with magic.
