The Sims: Deluxe Edition was released in October 2002 for Windows, coinsiding with the release of The Sims: Unleashed. It included the core game; The Sims: Livin' Large; and some exclusive content, including 25+ objects and 50+ clothing choices on a two-disc installation. It also included The Sims Creator, a separate program which can be used to edit and customize Sim clothing.
The version of the game featured on the discs uses the Hot Date version of the engine, it does not include some features which were introduced in The Sims: Hot Date. It also retains the EA Games/Maxis logo combo from The Sims: House Party upon startup.
The regional variants of Neighborhood 1 were omitted in Deluxe Edition (and later compilations using Deluxe as a base), and will only show up if the core The Sims game from a non-US locale is installed before Deluxe Edition.
The game can also function as an expansion for existing owners of the game if they want to install the exclusive content; provided that Livin' Large is not already installed.
- Families in the Deluxe Edition

- Pleasant family
- Michael Bachelor
- Roomies household: (Melissa and Chris Roomies)

The Sims: Complete Collection is an all-in-one collection that includes The Sims, all seven of its expansion packs, bonus content that was included in The Sims: Deluxe Edition and The Sims: Double Deluxe, The Sims Creator and a selection of official downloads originally found in TheSims.com, on a four-disc installation.
It is designed for "all or nothing" installation. Players cannot choose which expansions they wish to install, but must install the entire product.
Some extra skins included with Livin' Large and Deluxe Edition were not included with The Sims: Complete Collection (what items specifically?). Likewise, some of the Official Downloads sets are missing parts, such as the Green Bedroom Set, which originally included a clothes drawer. The missing files can be re-added manually and are still compatible. The reason for their exclusion is unknown.
The compilation replaces the original EA Games/Maxis logos from House Party or Hot Date and the 2002 EA Games "Challenge Everything" logo from Superstar or Makin' Magic upon startup with the 2005 "generic" EA logo, which is slightly cut-off at the end, and does not restore the original intro video for the game. However, provided that users have access to the original game files, the 2005 "generic" EA logo can be replaced with either the EA Games/Maxis logo combos or the 2002 EA Games logo, and it is also possible for users to restore the original intro video for the game.
The compilation was originally released in Europe as The Complete Collection of The Sims, and featured Triple Deluxe alongside the rest of the expansions all on individual discs in a twelve-disc boxset, allowing the user to choose which expansion packs they wanted to install individually, which was a cheaper alternative to buying all the packs individually if a player did not have certain packs. This earlier version retained all of the Livin' Large and Deluxe Edition content and lacked the extra official downloads that the later four-disc version added.
While it was sold at most retailers when it was first released, the game is now very hard to find online or in stores, along with other original Sims games. Due to lack of availability, copies of the game can range from US$30.00 to US$200.00.
It is not to be confused with The Sim Collection, which is the name of a 2003 software bundle including The Sims: Deluxe Edition, SimCity 3000 Unlimited, Sim Theme Park Gold Edition and The Sims Online.

On January 31, 2025; during the 25th Anniversary week of "Nostalgia Now" EA released Legacy Collections of both The Sims and The Sims 2 on the EA App, Steam, and Epic for Windows 10 and 11. The Sims Legacy Collection can be bought individually or as part of The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle.
The Sims Legacy Collection is similar to The Sims: Complete Collection with some exceptions:
- Widescreen support has been added.
- Almost all of the downloadable objects that were available on TheSims.com are included, except for a few licensed objects like the Pepsi Machine and the McDonald's Food Kiosk.
- The Sims Creator is not included.
- The 2005 "generic" EA logo is retained from Complete Collection upon startup at its cut-off length. Due to significant coding overhauls that EA implemented to retain this logo, it is not currently possible to replace this logo with either the EA Games/Maxis logo combos from House Party or Hot Date or the 2002 EA Games "Challenge Everything" logo from Superstar or Makin' Magic, or to restore the original intro video for the game, even if the user has access to the original game files.
