The Urbz: Sims in the City
VIP sections form a critical part of the game. Once the Sim has amassed enough district cred to get past the bouncer, the VIP sections feature various rare or exclusive objects and parties, including casinos, hot tubs, and catwalks.
The Sims 3: Late Night
VIP sections, referred to in Buy/Build Mode as VIP Rooms, are usually for level 2, 3, or 4 celebrities depending on the lot's settings, although Sims can bribe the bouncer in order to get in (except at The Prosper Room); the more the Sim pays, the higher the chance of getting in. If this is unsuccessful, Sims can sneak in through the barrier rope and remain until the bouncer kicks them out. If the Sim owns the bar, they can simply enter.
If the player has both Late Night and the Le Cinema Plumbob Sims 3 Store set, turnstiles can be used as VIP section gates without bouncers, though the game does not consider the sections inside to be true VIP sections, and Sims cannot bribe their way inside unless the gate has been set by the player to accept tickets from ticket machines.

The VIP door lock settings for a specific door.
VIP rooms are present at most resorts in The Sims 3: Island Paradise, and works very differently from those in Late Night:
What the game calls VIP rooms, are what would be called hotel rooms in real life. The game contrasts this with "regular" rooms, which are rabbit holes (Resort buildings) that (with one exception) look and work more like camping place cabins.
To set a room (Usually a bedroom) as a VIP room: Enter Buy/Build Mode (Not required if the active household owns the resort) → ^ Ctrl+⇧ Shift-click on a normal door → "Set VIP Door Lock..." → Choose whether to add a new VIP lock, tie the lock to a previously made one, or to remove the doorlock. To enter a VIP room, the Sim must either be checked in to the hotel (at which point they are assigned one VIP lock number at random), own the resort, or be an NPC resort maintenance worker.
It is believed to be fully possible to have multiple VIP entrances to a room, to give a VIP number access to more than one room, and to give a room multiple VIP locks by giving multiple doors one number each. None of these possibilities are used in the game's prebuilt resorts.
