Bars are a group of similar lot assignments in The Sims 3: Late Night, and a lot type in The Sims 4.
The Sims Bustin' Out (handheld)
The Sims 3
Bars attract celebrities and serve drinks provided by the Mixology skill. Bars are represented by blue beer bottle map tags. These are the lowest class of juice-selling venue, but also the most inclusive. Few pre-made bars have bouncers, and the price of food and drink in bars is very affordable. Each type of bar offers an exclusive preset selection of Mixology drinks. Bars attract Sims with certain kinds of traits and repel Sims with other traits.
Bars open at 11 AM and close at 3 AM the next day, making them open considerably earlier and longer than other types of juice-selling venues. All bars feature stages for bands to play on at gigs.

Built away from the center of town, next to a shady-looking building, Waylon's Haunt is the lowest of the low, much like its usual patrons. Along with a small dance area and a full assortment of bar games, a plasma-screen TV (that surprisingly hasn't been stolen) is mounted in the corner of the room.

The Bridgeport Sports Zone is the classiest bar. Everyone can enter the common room, which features an arcade and seating, if no dance floor. A VIP room in the back of the bar contains all the classic bar games as well as three wall-mounted plasma screens, but only 2-star celebrities (or anyone with §50) are allowed past the bouncer.

The Watering Hole Saloon is the default bar in Appaloosa Plains if Late Night is installed. It is not particularly large, and has no band stage nor instruments (Retrofitting a stage isn't super-easy either), but has two professional bars.
The bar is located at 197 East Appaloosa Avenue, near the Appaloosa Plains gym and art gallery.
There are conflicting indications on whether the lot has the "Dive Bar Criminal" lot assignment, which players can normally only give through mods, or simply "Dive Bar" like what Waylon's Haunt is.

The Llama & The Hound is a community lot in Sugar Maple Coast. Unlike bars in the PC version, the Llama & The Hound does not have any business or happy hours, effectively remaining "open" throughout a day-night cycle.
The Sims 3: Pets (Nintendo 3DS)
The Rusty Anchor is a rabbit hole that forms part of The Boardwalk, Port Abel in The Sims 3: Pets (Nintendo 3DS), and is open from noon to 3 AM. Sims can choose to:

The Sims 4
Bars return in The Sims 4. They are a great place for Sims to practice their mixology skill, as every single bar needs a bar object to work. They are also a very good place to hangout and have dates. Sims are likely to watch the television in bars.
If the player owns The Sims 4: Bowling Night Stuff and places a bowling lane in a bar, other Sims will come to the bar specifically to bowl, in addition to the other behavior on the lot. This also works for nightclubs and lounges. With the Clothing Optional lot trait, Sims will get a special buff for viewing art in the nude.
With The Sims 4: Lovestruck expansion pack, Sims can Seductive Dance at Bars without unlocking the interaction from the Romance Skill first. They can also do this at Lounges, Karaoke Bars, and Nightclubs.
With The Sims 4: Businesses & Hobbies expansion pack, if a player places down a tattooing table, a tattoo artist sim will be automatically hired to tend it and take clients. This is the same for Nightclubs, Museums, Spas, Karaoke Bars, Arts Centers, and Community Spaces (only Marketplace and Maker Spaces).
Themed bar nights and Happy Hours
In The Sims 4: Get Together Sims can enjoy different themed bar nights from 8 PM to 2 AM throughout the week. Sims can also enjoy Happy Hour with discounted drinks every day from 4 PM to 7 PM.
