A werewolf is a life state that appears in The Sims: Makin' Magic, The Sims 2: Pets, The Sims 2 for PlayStation Portable, The Sims 3: Supernatural and The Sims 4: Werewolves.

A male and female "werewolf" in The Sims: Makin' Magic.

In The Sims: Makin' Magic, a werewolf look is one of the options when a magical adult Sim successfully uses the "Beauty or Beast" charm. The werewolf look is available for both genders. As with all changes made with "Beauty or Beast", it is simply cosmetic, and has no effect on the Sim's interactions with other Sims.

The Sims 2: Pets

Werewolf Transformation

Werewolves are Sims who have been infected with Lycanthropy, a life state introduced in The Sims 2: Pets. Sims can become Werewolves when bitten by the leader of the pack, a large wolf that only appears at night, distinguishable by its dark coat, heavy build, and characteristic glowing yellow eyes. Lycanthropy can also be transferred from another werewolf using the savage interaction, though that will leave two negative memories—one for losing a fight to the Sim who initiated the savaging, and another for becoming a werewolf.

Once a Sim has become a Werewolf, they will transform every night at 8:00 PM/20:00. Their energy shoots up and their hunger need plummets; it may a good idea to prepare a meal in advance, although werewolves will not immediately die of starvation. A Werewolf Sim can howl when selected, an action which lowers the bladder need of all non-werewolf Sims in the room by half. When outside, a werewolf can also howl to summon wolves to the lot. Sims gain the Irritate > Grr! interaction which can be used against another Sim regardless of relationship and will lower his or her Bladder need. Werewolf Sims can even turn other Sims into werewolves with the Savage interaction. Werewolves will transform back every morning at 6:00, disabling all werewolf-specific interactions until nightfall.

The personality of werewolf Sims will slowly shift over the course of a few days, eventually reaching 0 Neatness, 10 Outgoing, 10 Activeness, 10 Playfulness, and 0 Niceness; the Body skill will also increase. As such, werewolves will tend to eat more quickly than other Sims and can even lick their plates clean when finished, but will rarely clean up after themselves, are notoriously messy in the shower, and cheat without instruction while playing chess.

Knowledge Sims naturally aspire to Werewolf-related wants, such as Sim howls, Become a Werewolf, and Turn Sim into Werewolf, while they fear being cured of lycanthropy. Sims with any other aspiration are exactly the opposite, fearing of becoming a werewolf and wanting to be cured if turned. Even if a Sim wants to become a werewolf, once they do, it will always appear as a negative memory.

Lycanthropy can be cured by purchasing the Lycanthropic-B potion from the obedience trainer, or from the matchmaker if Nightlife or FreeTime is installed. Unlike Vampires with the Vamprocillin-D potion, visiting werewolf Sims cannot be influenced to drink Lycanthropic-B, and must either be directed to do so on their home lot or taken control of via a game hack.

Werewolves are better at training dogs. They can train a command in just one hour, compared to the usual two hours it takes. Note that pregnant werewolf Sims are unable to savage.

Werewolves, much like zombies, walk differently during the night. They run when bent down. They can't run or skip until daytime and they can fight burglars, and will always win after the fight.

Summoning the leader of the pack

Players finding it difficult to attract the leader of the pack to their lot by normal means (additional trees, bushes), and who wish to begin the path to becoming a werewolf, can use testing cheats to summon the wolf.

After boolprop testingcheatsenabled is set to true, shift-clicking on the lot mailbox is required, then NPC, and then Leader of the Pack needs to be selected. After a certain amount of time, the wolf will appear at the edge of the lot, and Sim can begin forging a positive relationship with the beast.

Biology

While there has not been much data on werewolf physiology released in The Sims 2, many things have been left to the players to find out.

During the day, werewolves appear as normal Sims, albeit with very canine-like personalities. This change in personality may be attributed to a change in brain chemistry, and/or an overbalance of certain hormones. Genetically, the werewolf's personality remains the way it was before they were transformed.

During the night, the Sim in question becomes, in essence, an anthropomorphic wolf. Their howl ability causes a drop in the bladder need of non-werewolves, which in werewolves is possibly a naturally developed equivalent of the brown note used to ward off predators, such as Sims in lynch mobs. The subsequent urination creates enough embarrassment for the werewolves to escape from the scene in one piece. The nightly transformation causes an extremely fast 'big crunch' metabolism in the stomach to create energy, change chemicals in the brain and facilitates the growth of hair all over the body, along with tinted irises, all at once, within a few seconds, leaving the werewolf hungry and onlookers scared and confused.

Werewolves cannot pass the condition onto children they may have, unless the child is a teen or older. As evidenced by the increase in body skill, werewolves seemingly accumulate vast amounts of practical knowledge on the workings of the body seemingly only from transforming back and forth, enabling them to learn how to fight, or to do feats such as skipping, doing yoga, or practicing Tai Chi effectively, knowledge possibly from means of telepathy, which suggest that it is potentially extracted from a hive mind.

This is possibly unlikely, as if this was true, the werewolf would accumulate other skills other than body skills. Strangely, werewolves do not build muscle mass as would be expected by the metabolic breakdown during transformation and instead accumulate body skill.

Appearance

A werewolf Sim

A werewolf Sim

When a Sim transforms into a werewolf, their appearance changes significantly. They are covered in brown fur all over their body.

Male werewolves will gain a new "ruffled" hairstyle after they transform, while females will keep their original hairstyle. In this case it cannot be changed back until the werewolf reverts to human form. If the player attempts to change the Sim's appearance in front of a mirror, the Sim will state that there is too much hair.

Technical information

The effect of werewolves are created cosmetically with five separate opaque overlays, unique to each skin tone.[1] The skin tone of the Sim determines the overlay used by the game. The lighter the skin tone, the lighter the orange that can be seen on the werewolf where hair isn't present. Naturally, this has created a problem for custom skin tones, which was solved with a modification. The alien skin tone, even if replaced by a default replacement, turns the skin visible on the alien werewolf into a sharp green, rather than an orange, and the face will appear green. The alien eyes are replaced with a special 'hybrid' of werewolf and alien, a yellow iris and black sclera.[confirmation needed]

These specifications cause many problems for the modding community or anyone wishing to modify the characteristics of a werewolf. A vampire, for example, only contains one texture which is partially transparent, which is not used as expected for a werewolf. It is, however, possible to use transparency to allow skin to show through in modding.

Zombie-werewolf hybrids strangely do not gain hair when they transform,[1] though males will still gain the werewolf hairstyle. They will also lose their "zombie gait" walk and will move like ordinary Sims, making this combination useful, albeit faulty.

The Sims 3: Supernatural

Werewolves were reintroduced in The Sims 3: Supernatural, listed as one of the five supernatural types in the pack. They are a very powerful and social supernatural and maintain their basic needs just like Sims. They have a hidden skill known as Lycanthropy.

Appearance

Unlike other games in which the appearance of the Sim changes almost completely when turning into werewolf form, The Sims 3 werewolves have subdued changes in which the Sim becomes more hairy and gain fangs and glowing eyes, but still look mostly human. This is the first game where Sims can have their werewolf form customized.

Ways to make a werewolf

Abilities

Beginning as a young adult and ending as an adult, a werewolf's lifespan is 1.5 times as long as a normal Sim's. Werewolves gain athletic skill faster than other Sims, and do not tire as quickly. If a werewolf becomes angry with another Sim, they will transform and fight the Sim until they win. A werewolf's energy motive will also decay (and replenish) at a much slower rate than a normal Sim's.

They can hunt collectibles easier and faster. Their howls can be heard from afar, especially after they transform during a full moon, but a howl may vary from failed to loud.

Lycanthropy

Lycanthropy is a hidden skill that is unique to werewolves.

Transforming into werewolf form

Sims who possess werewolf powers can transform into werewolves at will by clicking the Transform into Werewolf interaction. The transforming Sim's clothing will not rip, so it will stay as it is when the Sim is in its normal state. They can also transform if their mood drops too low or they are suddenly angered. After transforming, their hunger meter decreases.

Lunar cycle

Werewolves react to the lunar cycle, a feature implemented in the same pack. During a full moon, Sims who possess werewolf powers will transform into werewolves, which can frighten nearby Sims. Once transformed, they will get a positive moodlet Lunacy with +40 mood boost. Their hunger meter is left untouched when transformed.

Feral change

If a werewolf transformed into their natural form by full moon or when their mood is dropped drastically, they will get a moodlet Feral Change. This moodlet does not allow the werewolf to transform back to human form until time is up. The duration of having the moodlet depends on how they were transformed. Pregnant female werewolves cannot transform.

To Sims and pets

Werewolves can frighten Sims or build negative relationships with them by sniffing them inappropriately (can also be done on pets)[TS3:P], growling at them, or complaining about their shedding. Sometimes, a Sim may whack the werewolf's nose using a newspaper. When scratching furniture in a Sim's lot, a werewolf can get scolded by the owner of the lot for acting inappropriately. At level 3 of the Lycanthropy hidden skill, werewolves can bite other Sims with a cursed bite (The target Sim must have been greeted beforehand, and there is a large chance the werewolf will instead be whacked in the head with a rolled newspaper by the target Sim), which if successful will begin a transformation process after which the Sim will become a werewolf.

If a werewolf has the Alpha Wolf lifetime reward, there is a new interaction which they can use Terrorizing Howl. The Alpha Wolf reward also boosts the Cursed Bite interaction; if a werewolf Sim attempts a bite on another Sim, it will never fail after purchasing the Alpha Wolf reward.

However, werewolves can also build positive relationships with them, but it will depend on the chosen interactions. For example, a werewolf can gain a positive relationship with a witch by aiding them in hunting collectibles. The witch can instruct them to find some collectibles that are necessary as ingredients for mixing elixirs, as the werewolf is able to find collectibles much easier and faster than a witch. A mutual partnership like this should inaugurate a strong and agreeable relationship.

Sims (both normal and supernatural) can Play Fetch and Rub Belly at werewolves. This interaction can increase their relationships and their Social and Fun motives.

A werewolf and a fairy can play a special game of tag, where the fairy enters small fairy form and flies around a bit, while the werewolf tries to reach after the fairy with its claws. Only the fairy can initiate the game by clicking on the werewolf, and not the other way around. This improves their Social and Fun motives.

To other werewolves

A werewolf can recruit other werewolves to "Form Pack", but they must have a relatively good relationship with them. The pack system works very similar to other Sim states' "Form Group", and are not long-term commitment fellowships.

The werewolves do not need to be in the same household to form a pack. A werewolf can also be recruited by another werewolf to join another pack. They can also Practice Fighting, which possibly builds their Lycanthropy skill and increases their relationship unlike the normal Fight interaction.

Once a sizable pack has been constructed, a single werewolf will be appointed the position of "alpha wolf", the respective leader of the pack. It is unknown if this position bears any special abilities. A werewolf pack can make hunting for collectibles both easier and faster.

To self

In their natural form, werewolves can Howl at the Moon, but only during night-time. They can also Hunt Solo at any time (The surface to click to initiate a hunt, must be outdoors and flat, but the rest of the hunt area need not be flat), and usually they will get one or more collectibles. They can destroy certain furniture (e.g.: sofas, tables) by Scratching them. The scratched furniture is still usable and can be replaced.

When Sims are in their natural form, they seem to lose their table manners. As a plate of food is on a table, a werewolf will be in a squatting position and "wolf down" the food in a hurried manner. Werewolves can also eat raw meat and specific fish without the need to cook them.

They will also autonomously rummage through trash in their natural form unless they have the proper and/or neat traits.

Offspring

Werewolf powers may be passed on to future generations when a werewolf mates with a normal Sim, a different life state or another werewolf. When a werewolf interbreeds with a normal Sim or another life state, there will be a 50% chance that the resulting baby or babies will be werewolves. A couple composed of two werewolves, however, will always produce werewolf offspring.

Though newborn werewolves are physically indistinguishable from human infants, the effects of lycanthropy quickly become apparent after the baby stage. Toddler werewolves will display animal-like behaviors such as howling and scratching at furniture, though they cannot yet transform into their wolf form, only gaining the ability to do so upon reaching the child stage. Some werewolf interactions, however, will not be unlocked until a young werewolf becomes a teen, after which they will have all the abilities of adult werewolves.

Curing a werewolf

A werewolf Sim who uses the Potent Cure Elixir will become normal again, and will no longer have werewolf abilities.

A werewolf can also be asked by his/her romantic interest to Forsake Their Powers. The opportunity window will appear, explaining what may happen and what to do. Once accepted, the werewolf must follow the instructions to remove the werewolf powers, thus becoming normal.

The Sims 4: Werewolves

Werewolves in the wild

Werewolves in the wild

Werewolves returned in The Sims 4: Werewolves game pack. Werewolves are very powerful with various differences in looks and temperaments, they are also incredibly social with a lot of interactions based around other werewolves. Moonwood Mill is a favorite spot for werewolves and is the location for two of the major werewolf packs Sims can join.

Becoming a werewolf

Create a Sim

TS4 CAS Werewolf Button

Werewolves can be made in Create a Sim just like other occults. Werewolves can be chosen to have a multitude of presets, fangs, faces, ears, claws, etc. as well as wear normal Sim clothes if they wish. Werewolf pelts are also fully customizable similar to the Cats & Dogs expansion in which players can give them or draw on different colors and patterns.

Being born

Having one or more werewolf parents results in a chance for the baby to inherit lycanthropy. Children who have only one parent as a werewolf have a 50% chance to be a werewolf, and if both parents are werewolves the child is guaranteed to be a werewolf.

Being turned

Sims can ask for other werewolves to turn them as long as their relationship is high enough. Being bitten will start a Sim's transition into a werewolf which takes approximately 10 Sim hours. During this time the Sim will receive the "Painful Bite" uncomfortable moodlet for 2 hours, and if they asked to be turned, get an energized moodlet. As the transition progresses they will get the "Insatiable Hunger" moodlet, which lasts for 4 hours, and their hunger need will drain rapidly. Once that moodlet expires they will gain the "Ravenous Hunger" moodlet, which lasts for 3 hours and further increases the rate of hunger decay. Because of the hunger need draining very quickly as the transition progresses, it is wise to have meals prepared beforehand. Once this moodlet expires, the Sim will instantly transform and enter a rampage.

Turning Sims into werewolves can only be possible if "Cursed Bite" ability has been purchased. Once a Sim willingly accepts a Cursed Bite from another werewolf, they will gain the Lycan Bond sentiment with them.

Contracting werebies

Accidentally being bit by a werewolf or exploring the underground can result in a Sim to contract werebies. Sims get a werebies remedy by asking locals around Moonwood Mill. If left untreated this will convert them into a werewolf.

Werewolf form

Werewolves can turn into their true wolf form at any time under the "Werewolf" interaction, after learning to control themselves. After being bitten and turned, a werewolf taking on their first transformation will always enter a rampage. Only after calming down while in a distant area will they transform back, and they sometimes transform back naked. When in their true form, werewolves will prefer to run on all fours.

Appearance

The different types of werewolves that can be created in The Sims 4.

The different types of werewolves that can be created in The Sims 4.

A Sim in werewolf form appears as an anthropomorphic wolf, having a wolf head and completely covered in fur. The werewolf form differs in appearance due to the extent of customization available in Create a Sim; having many different ears, faces, fangs, scars, teeth, claws, etc. available for selection, as well as many colors and patterns for their fur, and even the ability to customize the pelt with a paint system.

Lunar cycle

The full moon is the phase of the moon that has the strongest effect on werewolves, causing them to transform uncontrollably. Other phases will also give benefits and skill gains for werewolves, even when in human form. During a full moon, all werewolves receive an intense angry moodlet that generates significant amounts of fury, quickly succumbing to a rampage. This rampage is unique in that it lasts until the moon is no longer in the sky at around 5-6 AM. However, werewolves are able to stop this if they are successful in using the "Will to Resist" ability, and can even ignore the effects of the full moon completely if they have the "Lunar Resistance" ability.

Rampage

A werewolf overcome by fury

A werewolf overcome by fury

When a werewolf's fury reaches maximum level, it will cause an uncontrollable transformation, and their needs will remain static (but can be raised) for the duration of the rampage. Any Sims nearby a rampaging werewolf will become scared and run away. Temperaments, werewolf abilities, and other emotional factors cause werewolf fury to build up, and werewolves will become enraged at maximum fury. While rampaging, they will uncontrollably destroy objects and may randomly utilize any werewolf abilities they've unlocked. Even with transformation mastery, players have very limited control over the rampaging werewolf; they can only make the werewolf move around, snarl at or attack others (but cannot attack Sims that do not match their age group), and use werewolf abilities.

Werewolf abilities

Werewolves have their own panel to gain and upgrade new abilities that make them more powerful, similar to vampires from the Vampires game pack. There are also dormant abilities werewolves can unlock for free by completing certain actions.

Fury

Werewolf Needs

Werewolves have the same needs as normal Sims, with the exception of the meter located above their needs in the needs panel. This meter displays how much fury the Sim holds, similar to spellcaster charge for spellcasters. As their fury grows, a werewolf will start exhibiting more animalistic instincts that eventually take over, for instance; in human form, werewolves will start scratching their neck and make more noise while eating as well as eating more violently. They will also lose their ability to start conversations with other Sims, only being able to "Attempt Simlish Communication" and "Sniff and Introduce". When a werewolf's fury is at max they will unleash into a rampage mode, in which they will wildly run around and scratch or destroy random objects.

Fury is constant and hastened by temperaments, preferences, werewolf abilities, and the full moon. There are multiple abilities werewolves can use to help control their fury such as somber howl, and even have the power to resist rampaging and thus ending it even after it started.

Be VERY careful around fires with rampaging werewolves. Should they catch on fire, they cannot extinguish themselves or be extinguished directly by other Sims. They can only be extinguished by targeting a ground tile underneath them, or if they caught fire outside, and it starts raining. Firefighters would also rather happily shirk their duties and watch the poor werewolf die, rather than try to save them in spite of their fear (in this case, Werewolf Ally Sims are more likely to try to save the werewolf). Playable Sims can be instructed to extinguish a ground fire that is on the same tile as the burning werewolf, however, if there is no fire underneath, the werewolf will die.

Temperaments

Every werewolf has their own temperament, which can be found below the fury meter in the needs panel. Information about triggers that raise a werewolf's fury can be found here, which can include things like being flirty, being consumed by guilt, or being prideful. The werewolf Sim's traits can also affect which temperaments they receive. As werewolves grow in power and rank, they gain a total of 4 temperaments, but also gain abilities and interactions to decrease their fury, such as a somber howl or pacifying others.

There are 22 temperaments in total, 18 of which appear naturally, and 4 others that can only be accessed through the lunar howl ability.[2] These are the Mark of the Hunt, Mark of the Forest, Mark of the Night, and Mark of the Wolf temperaments.

Interactions

Werewolves have special interactions which are marked by a wolf symbol.

Self-interactions

Werewolves have some self-interactions, especially once they start ranking up and obtaining other abilities. All werewolves have the basic ability to howl.

Interactions with Sims and pets

Non-werewolf Sims who witness a rampaging werewolf will get an intense "WEREWOLF!!" scared moodlet, and being around a werewolf who is in beast form will give a "Beastly Presence" tense moodlet. Werewolves utilizing abilities such as grooming themselves or howling near non-werewolf Sims will cause a relationship drop to those nearby unless they have the "Werewolf Ally" trait. Sim who WooHoo with werewolves get a special flirty moodlet.

If a werewolf has a dog as a pet, whenever the werewolf howls, their dog will howl back afterwards.

Interactions with other werewolves

Werewolves have unique interactions with each other such as playing tug-of-war, sparring, and sharing werewolf experiences. Sparring enacts a battle between two werewolves as a test of strength either where they are or at the sparring grounds in Moonwood Mill. Werewolves can also brawl with each other, which unlike sparring, results in the losing werewolf becoming injured and a major relationship decrease.

When a werewolf howls near other werewolves, they will also howl afterwards.

Interactions with vampires

With Vampires installed, werewolves have an array of unique vampire topics to talk about including werewolves. These can range from favorably comparing werewolves to vampires, to debating the treachery of vampires and pointing out downsides of vampires. Werewolves and vampires can fight each other, and if the werewolf wins, they will receive the "Winner Wolf" confident moodlet.

Upon first meeting, werewolves and vampires will instantly suffer a -50 penalty to their relationship, which can cause some vampires and werewolves to despise each other immediately. This can even occur among family members created in CAS, or newborn babies who may dislike their parent(s) if one is a vampire and the other is a werewolf.

Offspring

If a child is born with two werewolf parents, the child could inherit lycanthropy in three different ways: they could become a regular werewolf, a greater blood werewolf, or a dormant werewolf (in which case they will be a carrier of the werewolf gene).[3] Sims with the dormant werewolf gene can later activate their lycanthropy by swimming in the lake within Moonwood Mill under a full moon. Werewolf children will not be able to access their werewolf abilities until they become teens, however, toddlers and children can be taught to howl by their parents. They will also occasionally receive unique angry moodlets such as "Beastly Growth Spurt" and "New Fang Pain", can eat raw meat, and children may accidentally break objects after using them.

Curing a werewolf

Werewolves can cure themselves of lycanthropy after gaining the "Lunar Epiphany" dormant ability. This ability is acquired by reading ancient wolf writings, and tells how to create a cure. After learning how to create the cure, a Sim must obtain 3 moonpetal and 9 wolfsbane flowers, both of which can be found in Moonwood Mills' surrounding area and from exploring the underground. The Sim can then make a glass of "Wolf-B-Gone" from a bar and drink the cure. Werewolf toddlers and children cannot take the cure until they become teens.
