StrangerVille[1] is a world shipped with The Sims 4: StrangerVille. It is a small town located on a red-sand desert plateau and is composed of a couple of community lots, a few residential lots, and a large crater housing a lab. It is the second world in The Sims 4 to feature a pre-established storyline and include a mystery the player must solve. It is also the only world in The Sims 4 that includes a trailer park.
The world hides a strange secret: its inhabitants behave strangely at night and there are plenty of scientists and military personnel walking around town.
Description
Welcome to StrangerVille: "The only thing stranger than the people is the flora!" StrangerVille is a quiet little town with a strange problem. The residents are very friendly, but at night things start to get more interesting. If you want to find out more about this town you can find Military Personnel hanging out at the Local Bar, Scientists researching at the Local Library, and that Curio Shop stand is sure to have some strange odds and ends by the trailer park.

After passing over StrangerVille, there was a large flash of light, causing his plane to short circuit and crash. Although he has grown skeptical of the residents of StrangerVille, he means no harm and mostly keeps to himself.

- Ted Roswell, Meredith Roswell
- The Roswells are the oldest residents in StrangerVille. Ted Roswell has since become the mayor and has been aggressively pushing to get StrangerVille to be more technologically advanced. It might have something to do with his frequent visits to the Secret Lab to try and cover things up.

Real-World Inspirations
Etymology
- The name origin of StrangerVille comes from the compound of "stranger," literally means a person you do not know or someone unfamiliar, and the suffix of "-ville," a common American place-naming convention of French origin meaning "town" or "settlement." Together, the name literally translates to "town of strangers."
- "Stranger" is likely referencing the strange phenomena of the world, so it can also suggest that the world is becoming "stranger," meaning more strange than before. Hence the name can also be understood as "town that's becoming more strange."
- The name might be a reference to Strangetown, a neighborhood in The Sims 2.
- The name of the neighborhood, Shady Acres, the word "shady," literally means sheltered from direct sunlight, but can also mean "dishonest" or "illegal." Combined with the word "acre," which is a unit for measuring area, but in naming convention, it often used to name the spacious or open residential area. Together, the name can be understood as either "a neighborhood sheltered from the sun" or "a land of dishonesty."
Settings & Cultural Influences
- StrangerVille is based on rural desert towns in the Southwestern United States, mostly inspired by the states of Arizona and Nevada.[2]
- The ██████ Lab might be a reference to Area 51, the restricted military base which is often linked to extraterrestrial research.
- The residential lots in Shady Acres are built in the Victorian architectural style.
Trivia
- StrangerVille has a unique weather type called "Strange Weather", which becomes active throughout the pack's storyline.
- With The Sims 4: Eco Lifestyle installed, StrangerVille is the only residential world in the game that does not feature any eco footprint. The only other worlds in the game without eco footprint are the vacation worlds (Granite Falls, Selvadorada and Batuu).
- According to Erwin Pries in the Investigation trailer, the crater is the size of Windenburg.
- Occasionally, after meeting a possessed Sim and interacting with them, the player will get a message from the Sim with cryptic messages like "JOIN US IN THE CRATER".
- George Cahill's home, Old Penelope, has no usable counter space in its kitchen because the only open counter is obstructed.
