Chickens are a type of NPC animal that appear in The Sims 2: Castaway, The Sims Medieval, The Sims 3 Store, and in The Sims 4: Cottage Living.

The Sims 2 (console)

In The Sims 2 for console, an item called Prof. Feathers Chicken Checkers appears in Buy mode, allowing Sims to play checkers against a chicken. There are a variety of other options available with the item that do not appear to work in-game.^{[clarification needed]}

The item returns in The Sims 2: Pets for console, where some of these options do work as intended. It also cameos in the PC version of The Sims 2, where the checkers booth can be seen on TVs in-game.

The Sims 2: Castaway

Chickens first appeared in The Sims 2: Castaway. They spawn on various points on each island, and can be captured by placing a crafted trap beforehand. They produce chicken feathers, which can be used as a material for crafting.

Chicken coops can be crafted, which allows the harvesting of eggs. Since they can be kept, domestic chickens living in the coop could be considered a pet.

The Sims Medieval

When the Market has been placed down in the Kingdom, two chickens will appear at the front of the lawn behind the marketstalls - one inside an open cage, and another outside, both on top of crates. They are not directly interactable; however, they regularly interact with each other, which is shown by their relationship pop-ups.

Chickens appear in The Sims 3 with Fowl And Feathers Chicken Coop premium content. It was included in the Country Livin' and April 2013 Compilation from The Sims 3 Store. The "Fowl And Feathers Chicken Coop" premium content also can be purchased separately.

Interactions

• "Feed Chickens" (Costs §5)
• Collect eggs. If chickens are well-fed, they will produce better quality eggs.
• Ask chickens for answers to questions, which gives the "Universal Enlightenment" +20 moodlet for 5 hours. Among the questions a Sim can ask them about are:

  • "How Many Chickens Does it Take To Screw In A Light Bulb"
  • "How Many Roads Must a Chicken Walk Down"
  • "If a Chicken Squawking Alone in the Forest Makes Any Sound"

  • "If it is Better to Have Loved and Lost Than Never to Have Loved At All"
  • "What Soup Chickens Have When Sick"
  • "Which Came First: Chicken or Egg"
  • "Which is Better: One Horse-Sized Chicken or 100 Chicken-Sized Horses"
  • "Why a Chicken is Like a Writing Desk"
  • "Why Chickens Cross The Road"
  • "Why Everything Tastes Like Chicken"
• "Play with Chicks", essentially cuddle with baby chicks. Gives the "Chick Magnet" +30 moodlet for 4 hours.
• "Argue with Charles the Evil Chicken".
  • After having argued with him once, the option "Fight with Charles the Evil Chicken" shows up. Winning gives the "Victory Tastes Like Chicken" +20 moodlet for 4 hours, while losing gives the "Chicken Blocked" -20 moodlet for 4 hours. After a fight, there's a 2-hour countdown before Charles can be fought again. Regardless of outcome, the Sim's Energy motive will sink fast.

The Sims 4: Cottage Living

• Chickens appear as decorative neighborhood objects in The Sims 4: Island Living. They can be seen roaming around, but cannot be interacted with at all.
• A few meals in the games are listed with the word "Chicken" in their names, but at no points are farm chickens shown as being used in them. Among the meals are Fried Chicken,^{[TS2:NL][Store][TS4:HSY]} Chicken Pot Pie,^[TS2:BV] Teppanyaki Chicken Fried Rice,^[Store] Butter Chicken,^[TS4] Roast Chicken,^[TS4] Grilled Chicken,^[TS4] Chicken Saltimbocca,^[TS4] Chicken Chimichurri Skewers,^[TS4] Chicken Stir Fry,^[TS4:CL] Chicken Burrito,^[TS4:CL] and Chicken and Waffles.^[TS4:HCH]
