- "(Sim Name) isn't feeling so hot. You may want to keep him/her around a bathroom."
- — Moodlet description in The Sims 3.
Nausea, vomiting, or being nauseous, is an illness encountered in various Sims games. While vomiting was first introduced in The Sims 2, and that it is a motive in The Sims 2 (PSP), the concept of nausea as a designated illness was first codified in The Sims 3 where it is a very common illness that a Sim will typically get once a week on average.
As a rule of thumb, nausea on its own is not contagious at all, no matter how close the nauseous Sim is to any other Sims. It will also never result in death on its own.

The Sims 2 (console)

During the Tranquility Falls chapter in The Sims 2 (console), two of Larry Liu's wants involve making an eel-and-squid carpaccio ("Make Nausea Meal") and to then serve it to Candi Cupp, for a combined 600 aspiration points.
The Sims 2 (PlayStation Portable)
In The Sims 2 (PSP), Nausea is one of the 8 motives of Player Sim. The motive is known to drop drastically if Player Sim spots a zombie.

The Sims 3

In The Sims 3, it is a common illness that Sims can experience from a wide variety of causes. Affected Sims will get the "Nauseous" -25 moodlet that lasts for 2 hours. When moodlet expires, the affected Sim will abandon their current action row to run to the nearest toilet to vomit. If no toilets are on the lot, the Sim will vomit on the ground on the spot. Nausea isn't contagious or fatal and is effectively cured after the affected Sim vomits once. There are many different ways for Sims to become nauseous.
Regular nausea can be prevented forever with the "Strong Stomach"[TS3:IP] or "Simmunity"[TS3:S] lifetime rewards, which cost 2,000 and 7,500 lifetime happiness respectively. If the Sim is inside a rabbit hole when the timer expires, the Sim will usually not exit the rabbit hole in order to vomit.
If a Sim has already become nauseous, consuming or inhaling Sweet Grass[TS3:UL] is known to cure it.
Plumbots[TS3:ITF] are immune by default to all causes except for Visceroidal Nausea, and even then does it never count down or expire due to a glitch.

Virtual Nausea

Virtual nausea is a variation of the regular nausea. Sims can become the "Virtually Nauseous" moodlet when they're using the SimLife Goggles too much. It is possibly based on the real life virtual reality sickness.
Nauseous (Pet)

In The Sims 3: Pets, dogs and cats are known to get nauseous in much the same way as a Sim does, but with a different icon.
The Sims 4

In The Sims 4, nausea works similar to in The Sims 3, but is divided into 2 steps of 1 hour each. The first moodlet will state that the Sim's stomach is upset, while the second one will imply the Sim is ready to vomit. Sims have a 50% chance of vomiting before the second moodlet expires. If the Sim vomits, they will run to a toilet, but if there's no toilet nearby or the nauseous Sim is in the middle of performing a task, they will vomit on the ground. In The Sims 4: Get Together, Sims may run to a party bush to vomit. As soon as the Sim vomits, the Nauseous moodlet will go away.
Squeamish Sims have the option to take deep breaths, which will cure their nausea instantly.
Sims can experience nausea for various reasons, such as:

The Sims Medieval

In The Sims Medieval, drinking 6 drinks in a relatively short timespan will make the Sim nauseous. It seems to work the same way as in The Sims 3, but the Sim takes 1 hour before vomiting instead of 2 hours.
