Pet birds are various types of small pet in The Sims: Unleashed, The Sims 2: Pets, The Sims 2: Apartment Pets and The Sims 3: Pets.

The Sims: Unleashed

Unleashed ships with four types of pet birds: budgies, lovebirds, parrots, and cockatoos. Budgies and lovebirds can be purchased from any Old Town pet store, while parrots and cockatoos can be purchased from buy mode. Birds will need to be fed regularly by filling their feeding bowls, or they will eventually die of starvation. Sims also can talk and increase their charisma by interacting with them.

One important note; no matter how well they are taken care of, they will eventually die after enough days have passed. If one owns a Mr. Cockatoo or Scarlet Macaw, one will notice that they will start to constantly feel hungry even if they are fed on a daily basis (making it imperative to sell them before they die).

Birds

The Sims 2

Bird spawners are available in Neighborhood mode.[1] When they appear in game, a hidden NPC is spawned in order to control the birds, similar to remote control vehicles and robots.

Warning
DO NOT, under any circumstances, attempt to add the Bird NPC to a family, try to turn them into a supernatural creature, make them selectable, or tamper with them in SimPE in any way or form. Doing so will cause game corruption, fixed only by uninstalling and reinstalling the game.

Tropico Avian Sanctuary
Tropico Avian Sanctuary
Naturalist Steven Crest discovered a species of brightly colored birds while exploring the jungle. He quickly noticed that the birds were talking! Realizing he could socialize with birds instead of Sims, Crest devised the Tropico Avian Sanctuary and brought them home. Whether you're lonely and need a companion or just wish to add some colorful plumage to your home, Crest's birds are the answer!

Parrots return in The Sims 2: Pets for PC. Parrots must be bought using the Tropico Avian Sanctuary bird cage, and cost §500. Players can choose between white, red, kestrel, green, and gray parrots. Once parrots are purchased, they cannot be sold, but can be released into the wild. The cage must be cleaned regularly and the feeding bowl kept filled, the cost of which depends on how much bird food is left in the bowl. Only teens and older can clean the cage.

Sims can improve their charisma by first teaching them to talk, and then simply talking to them afterwards. They can also watch the bird or play with it, and can carry the bird around on their shoulder. Sims can and may autonomously open the cage to release the bird; a released parrot will fly around the room or floor they are in, but will not fly off the lot and will eventually return to the cage. Sims cannot close the door to the bird cage until the pet returns to it.

The bird cage has a fun rating of 8.

The Sims 3

The Sims 3: Pets

Birds are a minor pet that are classified into two types: small and large. Small birds can be hunted and brought back by a trained cat. Large birds can only be obtained by a Sim befriending them. The success of taming a large bird depends on the Sim's wildlife skill.
